Ms Rosemary Gosling visited Russell Square International College on 10th & 11th January 2008

Academic Awards function for year 2007-2008 was held at Russell Square International College on 14th December 2007.

Ms Susan Gidman, International Development Adviser and Ms Binda Rai, Head of Media and Public Relations from University of London (UOL) External System visited Russell Square International College on 8th November 2007.

Exemptions and Accredition for UOL undergraduate degrees, academics by LSE

ACCA

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants recognises that 2008 graduates of the BSc Accounting and Finance or BSc Banking and Finance degrees who have passed combinations of units on these degrees are eligible for exemption from certain ACCA modules leading to professional qualification. ICPAS

The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore recognises the BSc Accounting and Finance degree as eligible for the ICPAS professional examination. This 5-module examination is the final milestone for qualification as a Certified Public Accountant and awarded the 'CPA Singapore' designation, subject to other terms and conditions of the Institute. Graduates must have passed the units specified by ICPAS. Graduates with degrees other than the BSc Accounting and Finance may be considered on a case-by-case basis. The University of Delhi has decided that the degrees in BSc Economics; BSc. Management; BSc. Finance; and BSc. Social Sciences of the University of London External Study programme, will be treated as equivalent to the Under-Graduate Honours degrees of the University of Delhi for post graduate admissions.

Ms Rosemary Gosling visited Russell Square International College on 10th & 11th January 2008. Ms Gosling had an interactive session with RSIC students. Ms Gosling confirmed that LSE has chosen variety of subjects where there is a balance between the qualitative and quantitative areas. She emphasized on the fact that the course was designed to develop the student’s essential analytical & critical skills so there was a need of active participation in tutorials –written and discussions.

Russell Square International College held Academic Awards function on 14th December 2007 to felicitate the RSIC toppers of University of London External Sytem Examination held in May- June 2008. On 8th November 2007, Thursday Ms Susan Gidman, International Development Adviser and Ms Binda Rai, Head of Media and Public Relations from University of London (UOL) External System visited Russell Square International College. In their meeting with Prof Rupa Shah, Director ,Dr Mankad, Dean Emeritus,  Ms Priti Doshi, Vice-Principal and Ms Bharti Bacha Education Advisor, they discussed the plans for celebration of 150th Anniversary of the UOL External System, issues related to administrative aspects of the programme and other degree programmes offered by UOL

On 2nd November 2007 RSIC had a Fresher’s party. The theme was Retro night and all participants wore Retro dress. There was an active participation by the faculty, students and the admin staff. There were musical performances, followed by dinner and dances by students.

A two day students’ orientation was held on 23rd and 24th August’07 in the college campus. An inaugural address was given by the Director, Prof. Rupa Shah, followed by the Dean Dr. Mankad, the Vice- Principal, Mrs. Priti Doshi, the Diploma Coordinator, Dr. Gita Chadha and the Registrar, Ms. Teji Varghese. A documentary film on the Tatas- “Keepers of the Flame” by Zafar Hai was shown to the students and an interactive questionnaire session followed thereafter. The students were also enlightened with an introduction to all the subjects by the faculty members. At the end of the two day session a Theatre Workshop was conducted by Ms. Amala Rai, a Theatre Arts teacher in Ecole Mondiale World School.

An orientation for the faculty was held on 9th – 10th August’07 at the Audi- Visual Room on the campus. The two day programme saw the session being opened with a welcome address by the Dean, Dr. Mankad. The Vice- Principal, Mrs. Priti Doshi spoke on the “Road Ahead” for the faculty members and also took a session on “Business with Purpose” where there was brainstorming done on several issues like improving teaching standards, peer work for students, projects. It was followed by a quiz “Kisme Kitna Hain Dum” and a talk by Mr. Uday R. Wankawala. Dr. Gita Chadha spoke on Laying the Foundation’-A Training for Foundation Units’.

Dr Mankad was the guest speaker at the Annual general Meeting of Western Indian Corrugated Box Manufacturer Association on 11th August 2007 at Hotel Atithi in Mumbai.

The subject of his speech was “Emerging Trends & Their Implications on Industry”. The speech was very well received by the participants and was followed by questions from and interactions with the audience.

The two day (6th and 7th September ’07) visit of Ms. Rosemary Gosling (Director, London School of Economics, External Studies) at the Russell Square International College had an overwhelming response from the students, parents and faculty alike.

An academic seminar on “Urban Centres in Globalizing World- a Case of Mumbai” was arranged with guest speakers like Dr. Fluer D’souza Head , Dept. of History and Vice Principal (St. Xavier’s College) , Mr. Sunil Tandon, Former Civil Servant ,Mr. Darryl D’ Monte, Senior Enviornmental Journalist.

The Seminar was attended by invited guests from the world of academia, industry, development sector and media.
 
On the second day, Ms. Gosling spoke at length at a seminar on “Exciting Study Options” where she discussed about the possible career options in the University of London programme. Dr. Mankad, (Dean Emeritus, RSIC), Prof. Rupa Shah (Director, RSIC) and Mrs. Priti Doshi (Vice-Principal, RSIC) also spoke about the bright prospects that the students taking the programme would have. Ms. Gosling’s presentation was followed by an interactive session where students and parents asked questions on and sought information about various aspects of the UOL programme.

The Seminar held at the Multi Purpose Hall on the RSIC campus was well attended by students and their parents, for whom it opened up a new option of foreign education, that of taking the UOL Programme while staying in Mumbai.

Sir Graeme Davis, Vice Chancellor of the University of London visited RSIC on the 18th of Apil 2007. Accompanied by Lady Davies, Ms.Susan Gidman, International Development Advisor, UoL and Ms.Rosemary Gosling, Director, External Study, London School of Economics and Political Science, Sir Graeme spent the morning of the 18th of April at the RSIC.

After a traditional welcome for the guests, Sir Graeme unveiled a plaque commemorating his visit.

This was followed by a tour of the RSIC campus and of the Ecole Mondiale campus. Sir Graeme and Lady Davis along with Ms. Gidman were appreciative of the infrastructure at the RSIC. They were also attentive to the faculty and students initiatives.

The highlight of the morning was the distribution of the Diploma Awards to last year’s successful students by the Honourable Vice Chancellor. Sir Graeme subsequently addressed the audience .In a stirring speech, Sir Graeme drew the analogy between making a garden and building an educational institution. Both require patient nurturing and give joy- in due course of time, he said.

This was followed by a meeting between the guests from London and the RSIC team. Meaningful discussions on issues of foreign education within the Indian context in general with particular reference to the relationship between the UoL and RSIC were undertaken.

Sir Graeme also briefly met the students and parents of RSIC. Sir Graeme and Ms.Gosling informally addressed them and answered their questions.

The afternoon culminated with a lunch.

On the 17th April 2007, the RSIC hosted a dinner at the Taj President in honour of Sir Graeme and Lady Davies. Distinguished officials of the British Council and the University of Mumbai attended the dinner. Members of the LSE Alumni also graced the evening. Sir Graeme, Prof.Rupa Shah and Dr.Mankad addressed the august gathering. The evening was a memorable one and marked the parternership between the RSIC and the UoL.
